Rossi stuns with F1 test pace

Valentino Rossi was thrilled together with his strong showing while testing a Ferrari F1 vehicle at Catalunya.

Driving a 2008-spec Ferrari on GP2 tyres, Rossi got within .1sec of Kimi Raikkonen’s 2008 pole position time in the Barcelona circuit, although direct comparisons take time and effort because of the different conditions and configurations from the cars.

“We stored the final 75 % of the hour to test a ‘time attack’ with little gas and fresh tyres,” stated Rossi. “I’d have provided anything for this type of lap time.”

Rossi last tested for Ferrari at Mugello in 2008 and Rossi stated he preferred the Catalunya circuit.

“It’s more enjoyable here, since it is a bit simpler,” he stated. “It’s more effort in Mugello, however this track here’s really wonderful, with motorbikes and cars, although I must state that Turn 10 is a touch tight and you are braking later.Inch

Ferrari’s Luca Baldisserri was impressed with Rossi’s performance within the test, despite difficult conditions on the very first day, that was disrupted by wet weather.

“We attempted different set-ups and that he improved a great deal,Inch he stated. “Which means that the motive force learns rapidly and it has room for improvement.”
